A Hero Must Rise
Slow days, fast years, space between filled with tears

We are one week away from ship out date. Because of Covid the Army will come to pick up Artillery Boy on Monday July 6. They will take him to Portland for the night before he is sworn in and heads to Fort Benning.
The past 4 weeks have been occupied by court proceedings because our boy got in trouble for drifting in a parking lot. It seems like this is his flow state...push the envelope, do something stupid, and recover. He is lucky this time. A mentor stepped up to help him complete community service and take a course on restorative justice. My prayers were answered. I asked God to save my boy and help him prepare to be on his own. As I listened in on the Zoom class today, I dropped to my knees praising God for his plan. All things are working together for his good and God's glory.
Over the next week, we will wrap up a few loose ends with the recruiter. In the meantime, we will laugh and sit together. I will think back to all of the good times. Wrestling, traveling, dancing, laughing, and homeschooling him. There were definitely tough times, but those memories will stay with me forever. Reading Charlotte's Web with Artillery boy as he drew pictures. Reading Greek Mythology and Ancient history over and over. He has been primed for this moment since childhood. I just want him to rediscover God during his training.
You're still my boy with mischievous green eyes
Sit a while longer, let me hold your hand
Hug me before you run off into battle
You slayed dragons daily with vorpal sword
Good always won, heroes rescued the world
Darkness exploded. Where is the hero, my son?
A remnant will rise to bring light back
A remnant will rise to bring light back
